Ashmole High

Over the Summer 2007, The Ashmole School took delivery of their SYNERGY Bronze radio station.  Ashmole is a high performing co-comprehensive school located in the London Borough of Barnet that became a Foundation School in 1999.  The school is over subscribed every year and currently has 1300 pupils on roll.

With a new school building, the Head Teacher - Derrick Brown, his staff, the Governors and the APFA planned to develop the school, further strengthening its success and the quality of education it provides.
To do so, Ashmole began to focus on  developing Music, Languages and the number of Extended Learning Resources and Clubs that are available to the students.

“There are opportunities to play music, to read poetry, to perform a play and to provide wider cultural experiences. Students studying a language can also take advantage of the radio station as well as the School Council, the Humanities and Science Faculties and all other subject areas.  The opportunities are limitless”
Derrick Brown - Head Teacher

The APFA started raising funds for the radio station in January 2007, by running events such as Bingo, BBQs and School Fayres they turned the ambition of starting Ashmole FM a reality.  In addition to the money that has been raised by the APFA, Ashmole expect the radio station to also attract interest from local businesses and sponsors opening new channels of funding and creating fresh challenges for students.
Pre-recorded radio shows are broadcast both around the school and online for the students to listen to.  SYNERGY’s incredible Pod-casting feature lets you save your favorite shows and upload them to a dedicated Pod-cast site, so students can listen to specific shows about topics they are interested in, anytime, anywhere, making it a valuable addition to the schools Virtual Learning Environment.

“SYNERGY is brilliant, the setup and professionalism of Clyde Broadcast is very impressive and the day we took delivery of our radio station, I called Darren Dixie - Media Projects Consultant at Clyde to ask if we could build it in advance of our training.  I was told we could and it took only a short amount of time, the equipment was well packaged and protected and it was simple to assemble."  Gary Hanscomb - Head of Music Technology

The SYNERGY radio station continues to push Ashmole into delivering 21st Century education to its students in a really fun and engaging way using state-of-the-art technology.
